The Ohio State Buckeyes suffered an embarrassing beat down
at the hands of their rival. The 45-23
loss is the worst loss in the ‘Shoe since November 11, 1999 when Illinois
blasted the Buckeyes 46-20. After a decent
first half which saw the Buckeyes lead 20-17, the bottom fell out after
halftime as Michigan got touchdowns on five plays of 45 yards or longer. Ohio State’s offense reached the end zone
twice in 14 possessions. Michigan quarterback
J.J. McCarthy had a field day, going 13 for 25 for 278 yards and his three long
touchdown passes. Ohio State’s defense
also gave up two long touchdown runs of 75 and 85 yards to Michigan’s Donovan
Edwards, who finished the day with 216 yards.
C.J. Stroud threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two
picks in a game that ended his Heisman hopes.
DeaMonte Trayanum ended up getting most of the carries, ending up with
83 yards, while Miyan Williams got 34.Emeka Egbuka led Ohio State’s receivers with
nine catches for 125 yards and a touchdownand Marvin Harrison Jr hauled in
seven for 120 and a touchdown. On the
defense that got torched, Tommy Eichenberg led the way with seven tackles and
J.T. Tuimoloau had four and two tackles for loss. But, all in all, it was a sad performance and
Coach Ryan Day is beginning to be compared to another coach who couldn’t beat
Michigan. Indeed, Ryan Day’s seat will
be getting warm.
If Ohio State doesn’t get into the playoff, they will be
Rose Bowl-bound to face USC, Utah, or Washington.
